Frodsham’s mayor is launching the town’s very own Oscars to celebrate its unsung heroes.

Community heroes giving up their time for the benefit of others will up for nomination from members of the public to receive special awards.

The ‘Oscars’ will be open to anyone; individuals or groups, who lives or works in the Frodsham area. They will also help raise money for the Mayor’s chosen charities.

It is all about making sure those good deeds do not go unnoticed, with the awards format originating in Winsford.

Mayor Mallie Poulton said he wanted to bring in an idea which celebrated the best of the town, and is seeking local businesses to get involved too.

He said: “My motto is Frodsham is a great place to work, rest, play and visit.

“I think we’ve got a lot of people who do a lot of lovely things for Frodsham and they don’t get any recognition. It’s about creating some positive headlines.

“For example we have a guy who comes every week and picks up litter in the parks. Nobody asks him to do it. I think people like that should be celebrated.”

Mayor Poulton has also set a fundraising target of £10,000 which will be split between the refurbishment fund for St Lawrence’s Church and Frodsham Community Centre.

The Frodsham Oscars will be launched at the Big Bees Breakfast Club networking group at Kash 22 in Church Street on September 6.
