PROTESTERS seeking a second cash handout from Frodsham Town Council to help fight Peel’s plans for a giant wind farm have been told to ask other communities opposing the development to “put their hands in their pockets”.

Campaign group Residents Against the Windfarm (RAW) have already received a £1,000 grant from Frodsham Town Council to fund a professional photo montage to illustrate the visual impact they claim the proposed wind farm would have on Frodsham.

However, after Peel reduced the number of turbines planned for Frodsham and Helsby Marshes, RAW was forced to bin the original montage, fearing it would be regarded as out of date and rejected by the inspector leading next month’s public inquiry.

Group chairman Roger Young told Frodsham Council this week that RAW had produced a revised montage, which he had personally funded to enable the group to submit it in time as proof of evidence to the inquiry.

“We are very grateful to the town council for your grant, but we need to ask for more because we’ve had to spend another £960 for a specialist company to validate the new montage so we could submit it before the deadline.”

However, most councillors were against forking out more money for the cause before campaigners had approached parish councils including Helsby, Elton and Dunham Hill.

Mayor Andrew Dawson asked RAW to contact other councils and said Frodsham would also write to request their support.

“They should be asked to put their hands in their pocket” he said.

Cllr Graham Bondi told Mr Young: “I’m very pleased you’ve done this. But having already put in £1,000 we would like to see other parishes contributing as well.”
