PARENTS and children from primary schools in the Frodsham area have taken part in ‘Use Your Legs Day’ – an initiative to reduce the numbers of cars on the roads each day.

The project, spearheaded by Frodsham Town Council with Frodsham Transition, and supported by local councillors, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Cheshire Constabulary and Frodsham Foundation, is designed to encouraged residents to use alternative methods of transport for their journey to school.

Cllr Andrew Dawson said: “The idea behind this initiative was to locally bring about a cultural change in the way children travel to school and on the day of the event there was a dramatic reduction in congestion outside the school gate, making the local area safer for everyone.

“Children from Weaver Vale Primary arrived on bikes, scooters, skates and on foot accompanied by many parents and everyone appeared to have enjoyed the experience.

“This was reflected across all the primary schools who took part.

“It is hoped that we will now see an increase in more sustainable ways to get to school in the future with more parents opting for alternative ways to travel.”

The schools took up the challenge with children from Frodsham Weaver Vale Primary, Frodsham Primary, Frodsham Manor House and St Luke’s Primary all participating in the event.
