Two men have been arrested on suspicion of operating an illegal landfill site on a farm in Frodsham.

The 47-year-old and 55-year-old, who are both from Frodsham, were arrested after the Environment Agency and Cheshire Constabulary executed a search warrant this morning (September 24) as part of an operation to ensure those who deal with the transportation, management and disposal of waste are authorised and are not putting the local community or environment at risk.

Both men are in police custody for questioning.

Environmental crime team leader for the Environment Agency Tracey Hartley said: “We are investigating whether an illegal landfill site is being operated on a farm in Frodsham.

“A failure to deal with waste in the correct way can put wildlife at risk and damage the local environment.

"It can create visual and environmental pollution and can contaminate land and local waterways, which could pose a health risk to the community.
