A HISTORICAL look at life in Frodsham through the lens of a camera has been published in a new book.

Titled Frodsham and Helsby Through Time, the new book – by Cheshire writer Paul Hurley – contains 91 idyllic scenes shown today and from times gone by.

“I love it, and really enjoy doing the books,” said Paul, 63, of Winsford.

“It’s difficult to get the pictures in the first place because there were so few taken but I have been very lucky working with the Cheshire County Archives who provided the black and white photographs.

“The book has 91 scenes so a total of 182 pictures.

“I’m not really a local historian and I don’t need to be, you just need to be interested in local history.

“It’s fascinating to see how things like the windows haven’t changed and that kind of thing.

“I did find out some interesting and quirky stories during my research, like the vicar of Frodsham in the 18th century who bought Shakespeare’s house and then burnt it down!”

The latest release is part of a series of books published by Amberley Publishing focusing on Cheshire’s towns including Northwich, Winsford and soon Nantwich.
