Community spirit proved to be in fine fettle in Frodsham on Sunday (July 6), as hundreds of runners hotfooted through the town for the ninth annual Downhill Run.

Around 250 runners aged between three and 80-years-old navigated the steep 1.3mile route from the memorial on Frodsham Hill to Castle Park, where the Rotary Club of Frodsham and Helsby were hosting their annual Festival in the Park.

The popular race is organised by Frodsham Community Association and was sponsored by the Frodsham and District Round Table this year.

Organiser Sue Thomson said: “The Downhill Run has become one of the highlights of the Frodsham calendar and is only possible with generous sponsorship from Frodsham District Round Table and support from Best Western Forest Hills Hotel Leisure Club.

“The Rotary Club of Frodsham and Helsby, Helsby Running Club, Frodsham Scouts and all the many volunteers make the Downhill Run a real community event which we hope will run and run and we look forward to the tenth anniversary in 2015.”

“I was delighted to take part in the Frodsham Downhill Run once again this year,” he said.

“It’s always great to get out into the sunshine, and luckily my marathon training meant that I wasn’t the last to finish!

“I am always so pleased to see people across Weaver Vale getting active, and I was happy to be able to present awards to some of the outstanding runners on the day.”

All proceeds from the race will go to Frodsham Community Association.
