A DESERTED children’s playground may be sold to fund a string of “exciting” adventure areas across Frodsham.

The playground at Park Lane could soon be closed following a major review by Groundworks Cheshire who want to replace traditional swings and roundabouts with ‘more exciting and challenging’ community playgrounds.

Frodsham Town Council are working with Cheshire West and Chester Council to replace the rarely used site with several new play areas, which will be placed in strategic locations throughout the market town over the next five years.

Councillors agree the Park Lane play area is little used since the popular new play area was provided by Cheshire West and Cheshire Council across the road in Castle Park.

Lead councillor for the town council play project, Darren Kelly, told the monthly meeting: “I think a lot of people already think this play area is closed, but officially it’s not.

“But the Groundworks’ report is saying the site is surplus to requirements and the town council has already resolved to look at realising assets from this and the Ship Street play area, so we should now think about closing Park Lane.”

Councillors have agreed to consult residents in and around Park Lane about the proposed closure.

Back in 2008 a Frodsham father approached the town council with ideas to turn the deserted play area into a skate and bike park for toddlers and young children. But despite councillors being impressed by the idea the park has remained untouched.
