A LONG-SERVING charity fundraiser from Frodsham who has amassed more than £250,000 for the British Heart Foundation has retired.
Volunteer Ruth Caldwell, 89, of Doric Avenue, Frodsham, has been working to raise vitally important funds for the charity following the death of her husband, Arthur, to a heart attack in 1965.
She said: “I have really enjoyed my time volunteering and over the years I have met some really nice people and I have made a lot of friends.
“I will miss the British Heart Foundation but it will be nice to have a rest.”
During her 45 years of fund raising for the foundation, Ruth, who has four grandchildren and a great grandson, set up a working group and worked as an in-memoriam secretary, liaising with funeral directors across Frodsham, Runcorn and Widnes.
Shirley McNally, fundraising volunteer manager for the BHF in Cheshire, said: “I have known Ruth for eight years and she is wonderful.
“She is a pillar of society and does lots of work in the community, not just for the British Heart Foundation.
“She has worked tirelessly for so many years.
“Ruth will be very sorely missed by the British Heart Foundation and I will miss her very much.”
