A Brown Owl has come up with a novel way to raise funds for a much-needed extension to Frodsham Guides HQ.

Nikki Barker, of Weaver Division, is inviting anybody who may have had an association with Brownies or Guides in Frodsham to ‘buy a brick’ to ensure the activity continues to ‘thrive’ in the town.

Planning permission has been approved for an accessible entrance, disabled toilets and a new kitchen, which Nikki hopes will transform the building into a ‘community resource’.

She said: “People who have ever been involved in guiding – not only in Frodsham – will know what a fantastic organisation it is for girls and women.

“Anyone who has ever been involved will have taken away fond memories and learned things that have helped to prepared them for later life.

“Purchasing a brick will be a small gesture of thanks back to the organisation, but will also help guiding to continue to thrive in Frodsham.

“A new entrance and disabled facilities will make our building welcoming to all, and will hopefully encourage the wider community to use the building.”

Each brick can be purchased for £5 and buyers’ names will be added to a ‘poster of thanks’ which will be put on permanent display in the new entrance.

Anybody willing to assist with fundraising or companies who may be able to offer plumbing or building services are asked to get in touch with Nikki.

With more than 20 girls on the waiting lists for Rainbows and Brownies in the area, Nikki is also keen to hear from anybody interested in becoming a helper or leader.

To buy a brick, send a letter stating whose name – if any – you would like to appear on the poster and cheque to Nikki Barker, Ship Street Guide HQ, Ship Street, Frodsham, WA6 7NW.
