FRODSHAM’S famous son Gary Barlow is celebrating the greatest day of his life after he was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s birthday honours list.

The former Frodsham High School student who rose to fame with boy band Take That was honoured with the recognition just days after he put together a star packed line up concert to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee on the steps of Buckingham Palace.

The Back for Good and Shine singer, who was born in Frodsham and grew up living in a bungalow on London Road, said that he had grown up dreaming of receiving the prestigious honour and was ‘thrilled’ to have been named in Saturday’s list.

Speaking about the honour the 41-year-old, who is recognised as Frodsham’s most famous son, said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and feel very privileged to be in the company of so many brilliant people who I know have received an OBE.

“Growing up I never dreamt that one day I’d be getting one myself. I enjoy every minute of the work I do, with a lot of it being a reward in itself, so for somebody to decide I should get recognised for that is just amazing.”
