A tuneful teenager from Frodsham has won herself legions of fans after she posted a video on YouTube of her singing a medley of tracks from Disney hit Frozen.
Georgia Merry, 18, uploaded the video – in which she plays several characters from the musical – last month and it has already been viewed more than 215,000 times.
Someone was so enamoured by her performance, they shared it on the homepage of China’s biggest Anime website, which has in turn generated more than 210,000 views separate to YouTube, which is blocked in mainland China.
American magazine Seventeen posted the video on their site, describing it as ‘the most epic Frozen video ever’.
“Them calling it the most epic Frozen video ever is such an amazing feeling, it almost doesn’t seem real,” said the former Helsby High School pupil.
“I’ve loved the magazine since I was a little girl, and the fact that they found me feels bizarre and is so encouraging.”
Georgia, who works part-time in her family’s business, says she ‘couldn’t hold a tune’ as a toddler so her parents sent her to singing and dance classes in the hope she might improve enough to fulfil her goal of performing in local shows.
With A-levels in theatre, photography and media studies, Georgia is well equipped to launch her career on YouTube, which she says is the ‘perfect platform’ to express her creativity.
Georgia said: “I’ve always been a huge Disney fan, but I picked up on Frozen quite late. Let It Go was the song that everyone seemed to be covering, and I knew that if I simply did this myself, mine would get lost among the many.
“This is when I decided to do a medley and dress up as each character. I was worried about looking stupid as Olaf (the snowman), or dressing as a male, but I knew that if I wanted my video to be recognised, I had to go all out.”
The video really was a one-woman show as Georgia did all the make-up, costumes, filming and editing herself.
“It was a huge challenge, but the response I’ve received makes all the effort worthwhile,” she said.
Family pet Cubby even made a star turn as Sven the reindeer.
Georgia’s hard work has obviously paid off, as she revealed she has been approached by ‘a successful music artist who has written an incredible song’ and asked her to record the vocals for possible commercial release.
