A GROUP of friends have organised a charity football match to celebrate the life of a popular Chester man.

Back in March, 21-year-old Danny Lunt was found dead at the site of builders’ merchants Building Supplies in Hoole Road.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the former Chester Catholic High School pupil’s death, and he was not connected to the builders’ merchants.

To honour Danny, who supported Chester FC and Everton, his friends will compete for the Danny Lunt Memorial Cup at the Exacta Stadium on Monday (kick off 7pm).

After the match several prizes, including Everton and Chester FC signed footballs, a Michael Owen signed England shirt and posters signed by indie band The Courteeners, will be up for grabs in a raffle.

All funds raised from the event will go to the charity CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), which was chosen by Danny’s parents.

The aim is to raise £1,000 but following a race night, sponsored leg wax and donations, Danny’s pals have already raised almost three quarters of their total target.

Friend Russ Dean described Danny as an ‘amazing person’ on a JustGiving page he has set up for the match.

He added: “Since Danny’s death we have set about raising not only money but awareness of how depression can affect people.

“As friends we didn't talk enough, and that has to change – we've promised each other it will.

“The match will be played by many of his friends and will be watched by even more of his friends and family.”
