Friends of the new improved  Neville Road Play Area, in  Boughton, donned boots and wellies to improve their environment.

Eighteen tree saplings had been donated by the Cheshire Landscape Trust to be planted alongside the state of the art play equipment.

Pete Tongue from the Landscape  Trust was on hand to give expert  advice on the planting of nine birdcCherry (Prunus Padus) trees and nine rowan (Sorbus Aucuparia). He was supported by Mary Lavery, CWAC Greenspace Project Officer.

Friends’ organisers, Roz Turner,  Michelle MacDonagh and Lisa  Nield led a dozen young people  who rolled up their sleaves, dug  out the turf, planted the trees to  help secure a green legacy for  centuries to come.

Supporting the event was  Boughton Councillor David  Robinson and Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Chester, Chris Matheson.

Cllr Robinson said: “Neville Road Play area seems to  go from strength to strength. Not  only has it enhanced facilities for  young people but it’s helped to  make the community stronger. At  all our public events from fund  raisers and the opening in August  to the tree planting today the sun  has shone so we must be doing the  right thing.”

Phase Two of the project will  centre on an outdoor adult gym.
