FORMULA One and Indycar champion Nigel Mansell is to swap horsepower for pedal power in a UK cycle challenge.

And one of the few stops along Nigel’s national journey will be the Live! New Scene Youth Club in Newton, Chester.

While there, Nigel, who has been recovering from a 180mph crash in last month’s Le Mans 24 Hours motor race, will be presenting achievement awards to Live! members in recognition of their efforts.

Nigel will be joined by his two sons Greg and Leo Mansell, as well as former professional cyclists Magnus Backstedt, Martin McCrossan and Ian Williams for the 1,100-mile event in aid of UK Youth.

The Chester stop on Sunday, July 25 from 4pm will be one of just 17 stops during the 13-day bike ride being undertaken by the team, and Sandra Pollitt, Live! co-ordinator, said the youth centre was delighted to be one of the destinations.

She said: “It’s going to be absolutely wonderful. We feel honoured to have been chosen.

“What we have here is a variety of bikes for all abilities. It started a few years ago from when Cheshire County Council had a few bikes and since then we have raised money to build on them.

“We work with disabled people and they use the bikes to be with their friends and they are able to be active and keep fit.”

Sandra added there will be plenty of activities during the visit.

“There are going to be different cycling activities. There are BMX obstacle courses, a range of accessible bikes on show and a vintage bikes display.

“We will also be having a barbecue.”
