A FORMER mature student received a community order after he admitted downloading 245 images of child porn.

Appearing at Chester Magistrates Court on June 25, Nicholas Cummings, 44, was also found guilty of nine separate counts of downloading indecent photographs of children.

Cummings, of Smithy Lane in Mouldsworth, admitted the offences, dating between January 25 and May 7 this year, at an earlier hearing.

He had enrolled on a part-time course at West Cheshire College in Chester which has now ended. The separate counts relate to January 21 and 28, three on April 7, one on April 30 and three on May 6.

Cummings was ordered to comply with a Sex Offenders Programme at Northumbria Probation Office for 60 days. He was also placed under supervision for three years.

He was ordered to pay £60 compensation to West Cheshire College and £105 costs. A Sexual Offences Prevention order was also made which includes conditions which allow police access to his computer for the next seven years.

A spokeswoman for West Cheshire College confirmed that Cummings was no longer a mature student at the Chester campus.
