A FORMER Cheshire-based care worker who fleeced her older lover of his retirement money has been jailed for 18 months.
Rachael Whibberley, 25, who has worked for Tarporley care facility Care4You in the past, systematically stole £26,430 from 68-year-old Brian Howard’s bank accounts over a two year period.
After he discovered the theft, Whibberley, now of Prestatyn, duped the pensioner into believing she was suffering from breast cancer to gain sympathy.
Whibberley, who is now pregnant and in a new relationship, admitted theft at Chester Crown Court.
Recorder of Chester, Judge Elgan Edwards, told her she had “breached a high degree of trust”.
Back in 2007, Whibberley was pictured in The Chronicle when Care4You were nominated for a national home care award.
But her former colleagues at the care agency stressed they had had no contact with Whibberley “for years”.
Manager Julie Cummings said: “She has not worked here for a long time and all her problems in her private life were her own.
“We have not heard from her in years and do not wish to comment any further.”
Former car worker Mr Howard, of Ellesmere Port, has since been reimbursed by Lloyds TSB.
