A FORMER Hammond School student has given a slick performance with the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain this summer.

Drama student David Edwards, landed the lead role in a production of Slick, a promenade performance, in Sheffield.

David, who gained a double distinction in The Hammond's BTEC Diploma in Performing Arts (acting) in addition to A Levels in music and history, played Joe, an eco-warrior who has lost his way yet finds redemption in his love for his girlfriend, Rachel.

He said: “Doing the show was amazing, such an experience. With a cast of 220 split between the first two acts and then all coming together for the final act we created something spectacular.

“The piece was a promenade theatre performance so the challenges were keeping in role constantly and keeping it fresh for each new audience.

“These were honestly some of the best weeks of my life. Everyone is so professional and gives 110% every day in intense rehearsals.”

Famous National Youth Theatre alumni include Doctor Who's Matt Smith, James Bond star Daniel Craig and Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams.
