THE son of a businessman and a former Chester magistrate was branded a thug and jailed for 22 months.

Mohammed Ali, 22, was said to have rebelled against the advantages he had as a child.

Mold Crown Court heard he came from a highly respectable family. John Wyn Williams, defending, said the defendant’s father was the owner of the award-winning Bengal Dynasty restaurant in Shotton and had been a magistrate in Chester for four years.

It was when his son fell into trouble that he gave up that work, Mr Wyn Williams said.

His mother and father were very upset at the way their son had been conducting himself, he said, and it was clear that there was a rebellious streak.

Ali, of Shannon Close in Saltney, admitted affray following an incident in October when he brandished a crowbar and made threats in Mainwaring Drive in Saltney.

He also admitted an earlier assault on a young man who had given evidence against him previously in court. The victim suffered a broken nose.

Judge Niclas Parry told him: “You are a thug, a violent man.

“You constitute a serious danger to any young people who have the misfortune to cross you.”

Mr Williams said his client had a quick temper and had been involved in two nasty incidents for which there was no excuse or real explanation.
