LONG-SERVING former Frodsham and Helsby councillor Gretta Cousins has been given the title of honorary alderman in recognition of her contribution to the community.

The former Cheshire county councillor, first elected in 1989, was one of 23 honoured at a special final meeting to mark the end of the county council’s 120-year history.

She said: “I am absolutely delighted. It’s the one thing I wanted when I finished serving, I was tickled pink.

She added: “Since leaving I have become a parish councillor in Alvanley where I live.”
