A MUCH-DELAYED project to repair the footway over the River Dee near Curzon Park is finally due to be completed.

But it has been announced the pathway, which runs parallel to the railway bridge, will not reopen until the end of this summer.

The new pedestrian route was due to open by the end of January, but the embankment and ramped path on the Curzon Park side suffered an embankment slip.

The end of the ramp and foundation to the last footway section dropped by about 70cm and the sloped path and a short section of the existing footbridge was damaged.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has been working with Network Rail to fix the problem, which caused concern as the embankment supports a section of its railway.

Network Rail’s geotechnical engineers inspected the landslide and embankment stabilisation is being undertaken. Due to difficult access, the only way these works can be carried out is by working from the railway at night.
