THE recent football festival staged at Vauxhall FC's ground netted £1,500 for the charity Miles of Smiles (MoS).
Backed by the Pioneer, MoS sends parties of sick and severely disabled youngsters on dream trips to Disneyland Paris.
When the charity's vice-chairman Clive Lawrence went along to Rivacre Park to pick up the cheque, he took the opportunity to make a presentation of a certificate of thanks to the football club's youth officer and secretary, Linda Edmunds.
The cheque received by MoS represents a donation from each of the 160 teams which took part in the football festival, plus proceeds of a raffle held on the day.
MoS chairman Mick Hughes said: 'We went along on the Sunday of the festival to present the trophies and watch the final stages of the competition.
'The standard of football was, as usual, of a very high standard and we applaud everyone at the club for the way they organise the event each year.'
He added: 'We are delighted to receive the cheque, which ensures that Steve Foulkes, one of the main organisers of the event, will be able to nominate a child and carer from Ellesmere Port to come on next year's trip to Disneyland Paris.
'The festival has become an important part of our fundraising calendar. We appreciate the amount of work that goes into the festival and are happy to be associated with it each year.'
