A NORTHWICH man has been convicted for his part in a large-scale fight between Everton and Manchester United fans.

Terence Sweeney, 40, of Cockinton Close, was among six Everton fans on trial for three weeks at Liverpool Crown Court accused of violent

disorder. Three were convicted, two cleared and the jury could not reach a verdict on the sixth man.

Stuart Driver, prosecuting, said that following the FA Cup tie at Goodison Park on February 19 last year, police kept the Manchester United

supporters under control in a convoy. But 50 became separated from the others.

He said: 'That group clashed and fought with the Everton group.'

Sweeney denied violent disorder but was convicted by a jury. He will be sentenced on March 31.
