FLOODING at Hooton station caused by Monday's heavy rainfall brought services along the Ellesmere Port line to a halt.

As a result of the downpour rail users were forced to travel on a replacement bus service between Hooton and the town centre, which includes stops at Little Sutton and Overpool stations.

By Tuesday morning the Merseyrail website said the service was running normally again.

A spokesperson said: 'Services from Ellesmere Port are running through to Liverpool. Passengers travelling from Liverpool to Chester are asked to please board the Ellesmere Port services and change at Hooton.'

Elsewhere, the weather also resulted in a road closure in Mudhouse Lane, Neston, after the rain caused a tree to collapse on to the road.

The county's highways service removed the tree on Monday evening.
