Heavy downpours have flooded railway lines between Chester and Crewe, causing major disruption train users this morning (November 22).

Some lines between the stations are blocked and commuters using Arriva Trains Wales and Virgin Trains West Coast have been warned to expect delays of up to 40 minutes.

It it understood that some commuters boarding trains to Crewe from Chester have been sent back to Chester train station to get to Crewe via Warrington Bank Quay.

The disruption, caused by yesterday's heavy downpours, is expected to last until about 10.30am.

A spokesman for National Rail said: “Heavy rain has caused flooding to the line between Chester and Crewe.

“As a result of this, trains between the stations may be delayed by up to 40 minutes or diverted via Warrington Bank Quay.

“This is expected to continue until approximately 10.30am.”
