A stretch of the A559 Chester Road in Hartford has been closed due to a burst water main.
There is slow traffic in both directions due to the closure between the Bradburns Lane and Greenbank Lane junctions.
A spokeswoman for Cheshire Constabulary said a member of the public reported the flooding at 2.50pm on Thursday afternoon.
Police officers are at the scene and United Utilities have been notified.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
