From this month five candidates are contesting two seats in the West Cheshire Youth Parliament election which takes place every two years.
Young people from across the Borough will be voting and the five candidates are Noah Aldous (Tarporley High School & Sixth Form College), Alias Buchanan (Upton High School), Harry Hatwell (Christleton High School), Shreya Jauhari (The Queen’s School) and Elinor Gray (Upton High School).
Voting began on Monday January 13 and will last until February 14. The first schools to vote are Tarporley High School & Sixth Form College and Upton High School.
The young people who poll the most votes will be Cheshire West’s Members of the Youth Parliament until the end of February 2016.
For the first time, Cheshire West and Chester Council’s Chief Executive and Returning Officer, Steve Robinson, will announce the result of the election on March 4.
He said: “I welcome the opportunity to announce the result of the Youth Parliament election and see this is an indication of its growing significance in the life of the Council.
“Youth Members of Parliament and Senate members sit on Council Scrutiny Committees, are involved in consultations and young people give the Council their views on issues which affect every resident.”
“I know that the five candidates are working hard to drum up support and I am sure that it will be a hotly contested election.”
