A FITNESS studio was proposed in one of the city’s railway arches.

The change of use was put forward at 3 Railway Arches, Kitchen Street, by Michael Davies.

Mr Davies told planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council he was seeking approval to occupy the arch backing on to a footpath leading to the River Dee promenade.

A refurbishment scheme for the arch had planning permission in May last year.

The two adjacent archways at 1 and 2 Kitchen Street had already been upgraded, according to a report.

The proposed hours were 6.30am to 10pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 6pm on Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays.

Planners had one objection raising concerns about limited parking and noise.

There were no representations from Garden Quarter borough councillor Bob Rudd (Lab), who was notified.

No concerns were raised by the highway engineer.

Planners accepted that there was no demand for business or general industrial use of the premises.

The change of use was recommended for approval and the borough council agreed the fitness studio could have permission.
