ST JOHN Ambulance volunteers were kept busy at the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park during the hot-test July day ever.

On July 19, 60 qualified first-aiders gave up their time to look after show visitors and RHS members.

By 5pm, more than 60 people had been treated for insect bites and stings, hay-fever, heat exhaustion and other relatively minor medical conditions.

St John Ambulance marketing manager Stephanie Littler said: 'There were no serious incidents on the hottest July day ever and we treated no more people than we expected. I feel this was due, in part, to the excellent plans put in place by the RHS Flower Show organisers and St John Ambulance in Cheshire.'
