Staff and children at the Firs School in Chester supported Chester Youth Club’s Gambia 2014 Expedition recently and its sponsored school in The Gambia.

The expedition allows Chester children to visit sponsored children in The Gambia where for each sponsored child the cost of a year’s education with books, uniform and a daily lunch is only £100.

The Gambia Expedition visits Chester Youth Club’s sponsor children and has become an annual event with each year’s group hosting fundraising events and collecting aid.

Firs School donates games kit to school in Africa

For 2014, youth club members identified a school for support for the next three years. The school has no electric or running water with over 2000 students with an average of 60 students per class room. The school had only one calculator that was shared between the classes and locked in a safe over night.

Linda Eite, Chester Youth Club manager said: “The Gambia Expedition brought with them 14 suit cases full of educational aid. Chester Youth Club members were so proud and would like all their supporters at home to know just how much their aid was appreciated and the difference it has made to so many young people who are struggling to stay in school.”

She added: “Thank you on behalf of Chester Youth Clubs Gambia 2014 Expedition for the games tabards your school donated to us. It will make an enormous difference to so many young children and at such a very deserving school.”

Chester Youth Club is already planning its fundraising for the 2015 Gambia Expedition which departs February 13, 2015.
