NUISANCE fires caused problems for Cheshire and Fire and Rescue Service as they were called to four deliberate fires in a night.

At 6.09pm a deliberate fire at an embankment next to Ince train station near Elton was started.

Trains were slowed down as fire fighters were forced to go on to the rails to battle the blaze.

At about 7.30pm officers were called to an address in Hoole, Chester, after reports that five meters of garden fence which was deliberately set on fire.

Later, at about 10.38pm, fire fighters were called to the Cineworld cinema at Sealand Road after bins filled with rubbish had been set on fire.

Finally at about 11.08pm a CCTV camera on Blacon Parade had been tampered with or set alight and was on fire, rendering it useless.

A spokesperson for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We had a very busy night. All of the areas we visited can be problematic to us when children are off school. The number of small fires we attend does raise at this time of the year.

“On two occasions there were youths in the area at the time of the fires.”
