FIREFIGHTERS rescued an elderly couple who were stuck in a lift for almost an hour.

At 2.40pm on Tuesday (June 14) firefighters from Ellesmere Port Fire and Rescue Service were called to Willaston after two people go stuck in a lift.

When crews arrived they forced open the lift doors to rescue the couple, thought to be in their 60s, who were stuck between the second and third floors.

Firefighters helped the couple to climb out of the lift where they had been stranded for almost an hour.

The breakdown is thought to have been caused by a mechanical failure.
