A FIRE ripped through a barn filled with 20 tonnes of straw in Calveley last Thursday afternoon.

Fire crews from south Cheshire were called to the barn fire, near Bunbury, at 3.15pm.

The firefighters used two hose reels and two main jets to extinguish the blaze.

Crews set up from an open water source to supply water to approximately 20 tonnes of straw that was well alight. Fertiliser which was in an adjacent shed was not affected by the fire.

Cheshire Fire Service was called to the Horse and Jockey pub on Chester Road in Helsby at about 5pm on Tuesday, June 1.

They found a small rubbish fire on the ground floor of the building.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze and used a positive pressure ventilation fan to clear the smoke.
