FIREFIGHTERS who tackled a blaze at a house in Saltney are urging people to ensure their homes are fitted with working smoke alarms.

Three crews from both Chester and Ellesmere Port were called to a property on St Mark’s Road at around 8.15pm last night (Tuesday).

The fire is believed to have been started by an unattended electrical appliance in the kitchen.

The two occupants of the property who had to be evacuated, were alerted to the blaze by safety measures that had recently been installed following a Home Safety Assessment.

Crew manager Mark Buckley has warned residents of the importance of having fire safety equipment in their homes, especially in the run up to Christmas.

“In light of the festive season and with people putting up Christmas lights, it heightens the importance of having working smoking detectors in the property.

“If people feel they could benefit from having Home Safety equipment installed in their homes, they should contact Cheshire Fire and Rescue on 01606 868700.”
