A MAN with nearly £1,000 of unpaid court fines has appeared in front of magistrates for drug offences.

Benjamin James Ison, 25, of Elliott House, Blacon, admitted possessing cannabis and MDMA when police searched his flat in January.

Ison, who suffers from a spinal condition and is on Incapacity Benefit, had £975.10 outstanding in fines, mostly for driving offences.

At Chester Magistrates Court on Wednesday, District Judge Brigid Knight reduced this amount to £565.10, as Ison was not present at his last hearing to explain his financial situation. For possession, Ison was ordered to pay a further £150 in fines. A 12-month supervision order issued previously was also extended.

Chris Hunt, defending, stated the amounts of drugs were small and for personal use.
