RESIDENTS in Chester are invited to find out more about buying Fairtrade products in celebration of World Fairtrade Day this Saturday.

Cheshire West and Chester’s Fairtrade steering group is supporting the annual global event by promoting the principles of buying goods from farmers who will benefit from better prices and working conditions, local sustainability and fair terms of trade.

Fairtrade stalls will be at the entrance to Tesco on Frodsham Street, Chester, and in the centre of The Port Arcades, Ellesmere Port, on Saturday, May 11, from 11am-3pm offering free Fairtrade samples and activities for all including the journey from cocoa bean to bar.

Fairtrade champion Cllr Julia Tickridge said: “It’s really important that as a council we promote Fairtrade products and raise awareness of Fairtrade values and principles amongst our residents.

“So please come along and show your support for annual World Fairtrade Day and find out more about how you can support disadvantaged farmers and workers in developing countries get a better deal.”

Cheshire West and Chester Council was awarded Fairtrade Borough Status last year, with the status needing to be renewed every two years.
