A MAN fears lives will be lost if yobs continue to race around a residential area.

The Overpool resident, who does not want to be named, says youths who have been drinking are seen speeding around on bikes and in cars.

Matters came to a head on Monday night when a car driven by a number of youths crashed on the estate.

The resident said: 'I had been in my garden when I heard this car with the engine roaring, like it was racing. It came screaming down off Rossmore Road and then there was a bang.

'I thought it had hit another car or a pedestrian. We raced out to it, and the car drove off up Bailey Avenue. It had hit the kerb loudly.' The resident added: 'If this continues someone is going to be killed.

He said many people in the area were now afraid to leave their homes.

'You even have to look out to see whether anything is coming fast down the street,' the man added.

He said he and his wife were regularly woken by cars 'screeching their brakes' as they roar down the estate's roads.

And he added: 'There was one car, coming down Bailey Avenue at 7am, really fast. It did a handbrake turn at the crossroads and then went back along the road, driving on the pave-ments wherever possible.'

All incidents have been reported to the police, and the resident has also written to Andrew Miller MP about them.
