AN ANGRY parent has blasted yobs for vandalising a closure-hit school.

Ian Finlay, who led the fight to save Gorsthills Primary, is furious a large group of drunken youths are causing damage to the building and playing fields.

The father-of-two says yobs have been targeting the school over the past three months, with attacks becoming worse over the Easter holidays.

During half-term, police and the school caretaker were called out on numerous occasions after windows were smashed and the playground and field was left littered with broken beer bottles.

Mr Finlay is upset the vandalism is ruining what little time the children have left at Gorsthills before it closes in the summer.

And he fears it could be a sign of things to come when the 35-year-old school is shut down forever.

Mr Finlay, vice-chair of governors at the school, said: 'It's bad the school is closing without this happening too.

'I want the kids to enjoy their time at the school and have good memories of the place. I don't want them to have bad memories due to the actions of mindless yobs.

'The playground and field is covered in glass. I called the police out at 11pm on one night because they'd set the alarm off smashing windows.'

A Cheshire County Council spokes-woman said: 'We are looking at ways to secure the building once it closes.

'An option is to employ a company to visit the site, day and night, to deter people from coming into the grounds. The other possibility would be to board up the windows.'
