SOME very special guests have returned to Middlewich for the festive period - and they have brought a very 'deer' friend along with them, Father Christmas.
Boosey's Garden Centre on Newton Bank has welcomed back reindeer from the Cairngorm tribe, the only reindeer in Britain, and they will be in town until December 23.
The centre has been hosting reindeer from Scotland for 14 years, with thousands of youngsters calling in to meet them. And during that time, manager Paul Morris has learned a lot about the animals. He said: 'At first we would have someone available so that we could make sure we were feeding them properly and caring for them the right way. But the more you find out about them the more amazing they are.
'For example, unlike other deer species, reindeer like human company and are more like dogs than they are other deer in the way they react to us.'
Of course, wherever there are reindeer, another Christmas favourite is never far behind, and Booseys also welcomes Santa on Thursdays and Fridays from 3-5pm and from 10-4 at the weekends.
Paul said: 'It's great to have him here again, and he'll be helping us raise money for the Educational Needs in Africa charity. They're a small group that goes out and works on overseas projects such as well digging and building schools.
'Last year, we raised £3,300 with father Christmas, which was used in March to build a school in the Gambia. Hopefully we can continue to help people in the near future.'
