FORGET Milan, Paris or Rome… Chester was chosen as the glamorous location for a TV commercial promoting a ladies clothing range.
The 30-second advert for the Simply Be catalogue for women in larger sizes was shot within the Oddfellows bar in Lower Bridge Street, in the city centre and by The Groves, where a fake zebra crossing was installed.
Producer Sharon Gunnell, of Salford-based production company Velvet, said: “We were looking for somewhere fairly commutable because we had got people coming from over the place. We had some people coming from America and some people from France. All the equipment comes from Manchester.
“We thought Chester had a really cosmopolitan air about it and could be anywhere in Europe. It’s got a nice feel to it.”
Sharon said Chester Constabulary and the Cheshire Film Office had been helpful in ensuring access and allowing parking dispensations for the film trucks.
She said the models used in the commercial, which airs on satellite and terrestrial channels from Monday, August 25, were all size 14, in keeping with the target market of the catalogue owned by JD Williams.
