PARISH councillors and neighbours objected when approval was sought to increase the land immediately surrounding a village property.Š

Their concerns will now be considered at an appeal.

The application was made at Briar Manor, Willington Road, Tarvin, by Simon Barry.Š

Mr Barry told planning officers at Cheshire West and Chester Council the land, which had been drained and levelled, would create a more open and desirable aspect.

Tarvin Parish Council opposed the change of use from agricultural land to domestic.

Representations were made by neighbours who argued the property ‘already sits on a large plot’.

They could see no need to increase the plot and believed the application would lead to further development at Briar Manor which they claimed was already overdeveloped and out of keeping.

The original permission for the property had provided for the inclusion of a small amount of pasture land, planners pointed out.Š

‘Significant extensions’ had been carried out which had reduced the size of the rear garden but they felt this was still sufficient.Š

A swimming pool building had been erected without permission and they argued if an appeal was dismissed, the council would be likely to pursue enforcement action to free up space.Š

If the application was approved, the land was likely to be maintained in a manner that would be detrimental to its open and rural character.Š

The application was refused and Mr Barry has now appealed against the decision. Š
