IT'S Runcorn 4 Worcester 0 -despite Alvin McDonald's side loosing out in this weekend's Nationwide North clash.

That was the outcome after the Histon family from Carlton Avenue in Runcorn recently took on all comers to win the annual Santa Fun Run organised by Worcester City FC.

Forty-one-year-old Gail Histon, along with husband Paul, 40, daughter Kimberly, 12, and family friend Carly Quick, 15, won the three-and-a-half mile race.

In2003 the run raised around £20,000 for the Leukaemia CARE charity, and organisers were hoping to double that amount this year.

More than 1,000 people took part in the race, with the winning family all having to cross the line together. Mrs Histon told the Weekly News: 'It was a long way to travel but it was a really good laugh seeing everyone in their Santa suits and they had all the road closed off where we were running, so loads of people were watching.

'We never expected to win because the numbers they gave us to race in were really high so we knew there were loads of people taking part.

'It was just nice to finish really because we had not done any training or anything and it was obviously nice to do something for a good cause.

'We were on our way out of the ground when they announced that the family from Cheshire had won and we were pretty shocked.

The Histon's became involved in the run through Gail's father, Paul Curtis, who is chairman of Worcester City FC.

He said: 'It was fantastic to see them win the race. It was a great weekend. I have obviously got very close connections with Runcorn, so I don't really want to rub it in with them about the result on Saturday.'
