A MOTORCYCLIST from Elton was killed after a head on collision with a heavy-duty combine harvester.

Married father-of-three John Pollitt, 45, of Parkland Drive, Elton, a technician with Ince-based fertiliser company Growhow and part time taxi driver with Village Taxis, died following the crash on Monday, August 2, at about 10am.

It is thought motorbike enthusiast Mr Pollitt was riding his distinctive blue Suzuki bike – decorated with the livery of the Rizla Moto GP racing team – towards Helsby on the A56 at the junction with the M53 roundabout while the giant Claas Lexion combine harvester was travelling in the opposite direction towards Chester when the collision happened.

Cheshire Police were called to the accident, at the junction of the A56 and near to the M53 roundabout, at about 10.08am on Monday, August 2, and closed the road to allow crash investigators to conduct their enquiries.

North West Ambulance Service took Mr Pollitt to the Countess of Chester hospital where staff were on standby but he died from his injuries.

On Wednesday morning, a second collision saw a pedestrian knocked down by a car at Hoole roundabout, just 500 metres from where Mr Pollitt was killed.

The female was taken to the Countess of Chester hospital with serious head injuries following the accident at about 9am.

Anyone with any information on either incident is asked to ring Sgt Rachel Gallagher at Chester Police roads unit on 0845 458 0000.
