HUNDREDS attended the Helsby family fireworks display on Saturday and thousands of pounds were raised which will help keep the community club open.

The Chester Road club hosted the event from 7pm on Saturday, November 7, which featured a fireworks display, a fun fair, food and live music from former Helsby factor winner Cris Grixti.

Spokeswoman Michelle Pickstock said: “It was fantastic from our point of view. It was absolutely chocka.

“We had to charge for the first time this year and we were all really nervous but people voted with their feet and came out and supported it.

“The live music went down really well, as did the fun fair, it all brought people in.

“I think we made about £3,000 on the night which will help keep us going.

“I would like to thank the Rotary club, the volunteers who came out to help and everyone who came on the night.”

The club has launched a weekly Wednesday night quiz starting at 9pm, featuring 40 general knowledge questions.

On Friday, November 13, it will hold a poker night, entry is free but players will have to pay per game, starting at 7.30pm and includes free tuition for beginners.
