HEALTH chiefs marked National Falls Awareness Day by giving out information on the services they offer.

Organised as part of a national awareness campaign run by Help the Aged, the day provided a comprehensive overview of the Central Cheshire Primary Care Trust's Integrated Falls Service and the many different initiatives which are available and being developed.

The day also saw the launch of the Active, Steady & Safe falls prevention pack which has been developed with input from a wide range of agencies.

A spokesman said: 'Raising awareness of falls is still a critical issue since one person dies every five hours as the result of a fall. It remains the biggest cause of accidental death for older people.

'The new prevention pack will be issued following an assessment by a professional and will provide helpful information for older people around lifestyle changes which can make all the difference when preventing falls.

'Falls are not an inevitable part of ageing and working to reduce the risk of falls and fractures will help thousands of older people maintain independence and mobility into later life.'
