TWO musicians are organising a night of entertainment in aid of the Leighton Hospital Macmillan Nurses Appeal.

Northwich guitarists Matthew Stokes and Chris Ashmore are behind the Hartford Social Club event.

In April 2002, the pair raised £2,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust but this time they hope to make £4,000 for the Leighton appeal.

'Some of mine and Chris's relatives died of cancer. We felt this was something we could do. It will be a good night for a good cause.'

The duo will perform 23 songs, which will be followed by a disco from SPD Sounds. A buffet and raffle will also be laid on.

'One of the prizes is a week in Portugal, where my friend owns a villa,' said Matthew.

'You can also win a £200 voucher for the Brandmead designer clothes store at Cheshire Oaks.'

Whatever the pair raise will be put towards the appeal's campaign, backed by the Chronicle, to raise £485,000 to provide five new nursing specialists. They will be employed across Mid and South Cheshire, including a palliative care clinical nurse specialist based at St Luke's Hospice in Winsford.

Event sponsor Barclays Bank has agreed to match, pound for pound, donations up to £750.

Tickets to the event on Saturday, October 1, cost £10 including a buffet and are available now from the club, based at Hartford Royal British Legion Club on Bradburns Lane, on 01606 75287. Doors will open on the night at 7pm. * For more information on the Leighton Hospital Macmillan Cancer Appeal, call Michelle Maxwell on 01270 273528 or e-mail
