FEARS a Chester estate would be abandoned once Government project funding ended appear to have been soothed.

Blacon Pathfinder, a scheme to improve life on Chester's largest estate, has brought in millions of pounds over five years.

But Cllr John Price, speaking at a One Voice meeting, admitted: 'The real fear was that come the end of funding this March, what would happen? Nothing.

'There have been attempts in the past to do things in the community but when the money runs out, everything dies off. Blacon people have felt betrayed.'

This time, however, the boards of Chester and District Housing Trust and Blacon Community Trust have agreed to take over and continue Pathfinder's work.

They have promised to set up legally binding arrangements between agencies such as councils, police, the fire service and the primary care trust within 12 months.
