COUNCIL bosses are waiting for full details on the environmental impact of a huge waste incinerator which critics claim will generate tons of toxic pollution.

The facility planned for Ince Marshes has sparked a massive opposition from residents in Halton and Frodsham who claim it could spell environmental disaster.

Now Halton Borough Council is awaiting the results of an assessment by the Merseyside Environ-mental Advisory Service before deciding on its position.

Campaigners claim the facility could spread fall out across Run-corn, Frodsham, Widnes and as far as Liverpool.

Opponent Lance Yates said: 'It is vitally important that people know what is going on and are aware of the possible dangers posed by the planned incinerator which would burn 600,000 tonnes of household waste a year.'

Developers Peel Environmental insist toxic elements will be removed.

Development manager Myles Kitcher said: 'We would not be able to get a planning consent or a pollution prevention and control permit if there was danger of a health risk.'

Brian Cartwright, chairman of Cheshire Against The Incinerator, said: 'All incinerators emit noxious chemicals.
