A FREE half-day conference designed to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship in the Chester and Ellesmere Port area is taking place at Chester Racecourse on Tuesday, March 30.

Young entrepreneur Fraser Doherty, who started his SuperJam brand in his mum’s kitchen at the age of 14 and now supplies the UK’s major supermarket chains, will be the keynote speaker and will talk people through the highs and lows of developing a national brand.

The Take control Today event is being run jointly by Enterprise UK, Enterprise Advisor Service, NWDA and West Cheshire College to give people interested in starting their own businesses a chance to find out some of the basics to be considered when setting out alone.

In addition to listening to Fraser’s inspiring story, the event will include seminars on websites and e-marketing, business start-up, social enterprise and tax.

Key local business organisations will also have representatives on hand to discuss how they can help to develop and grow new businesses in the area.

FE Enterprise Hub co-ordinator for West Cheshire, Dr Ruth Jones, said: "This conference is an ideal stepping stone for anyone thinking about starting their own business but wanting to find out more.

"We hope it will inspire people to turn their passion into profit by unleashing their business potential and we have some brilliant entrepreneurial experts on hand to explain how."

The event runs from 1pm to 5pm at Chester Racecourse on Tuesday, March 30, 2010. It is free and places can be booked online by visiting http://takecontroltodaychester.eventbrite.com or calling 01244 670600.
