A TOUR of Nantwich's historic parish church has been produced on video and DVD.

The 650-year-old St Mary's Parish Church is often referred to as the Cathedral of South Cheshire and the new 40-minute recording has been titled The Jewel in the Town.

It has been compiled by Harold Forster, a lay reader and church tour guide, in conjunction with amateur video expert John Brough and Neil Murray, who is in charge of the church sound system.

Mr Forster said: 'I have wanted to do something like this for a long time.

'I love taking people around the church and showing them the various features.

Now we can take people around the church without them actually being there, though I would hope that anyone who buys the DVD or video and sees what a marvellous church we have, will want to come and visit.'

Mr Forster, 84, former area manager at Piccadilly Station in Manchester, is a keen historian.

He said: 'We get visitors from all over the world and without exception they are always impressed with the wonderful architecture of the building.'

The DVD and video, which is priced £7, will be available in the church shop which re-opens after the winter closure on Thursday next week.
