A MOTORBIKE training group based in the borough is to be disbanded.

Ellesmere Port & Chester Motorcycle Club provides new riders with their Compulsory Basic Training which they need before they hit the roads.

Port residents Bob Hughes, Ian Hogan and Carl Arthur have been holding the sessions in the Civic Way council car park for past 30 years.

Mr Arthur's wife Angela said: 'The three instructors have been doing it on a voluntary basis every Sunday, and have nearly 70 years of experience between them.

'But sadly they are giving up the group on Sunday, October 28, because of family and work commitments. In the past, the instructors have given up things like birthdays and Boxing Day to help the learners.

'It's a shame because the group has proved popular over the years, with people coming from all over Liverpool, Flintshire and Cheshire to do the course.

'There's no-one else we know of who can step into their shoes. Trainees will have to go to Birken-head or Chester now for their CBT.'
